ASCM Governance

A letter from our CEO and Board Chair

At the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM), our purpose is to advance the practice and profession of supply chain management worldwide. We do this by holding ourselves to the highest standards and by communicating clearly and transparently with the people we serve.

Recently, a small number of individuals have circulated inaccurate claims about ASCM that are misleading our community. We want to address these claims directly with verified facts and reaffirm our commitments.

Setting the record straight and addressing inaccuracies:

  • ASCM is financially stable and is not at risk of bankruptcy or going out of business. The online claims being circulated misrepresent the data from the IRS Form 990. A 990 tax filing does not — and cannot — provide a full financial picture of any nonprofit organization. It is not designed to assess solvency, long-term financial health, reserves, investments or overall operational capacity.
  • ASCM’s financials are reviewed rigorously by financial experts. Full financial statements, not IRS forms, are required to properly evaluate an organization’s financial health. ASCM engages external financial experts for all independent audits, tax filings and investment oversight. ASCM has received an “unqualified” audit report year after year from these external auditors — meaning no material financial concerns have been identified.
  • ASCM’s Audit Committee and Finance Committee, comprised of experienced, independent professionals, review and monitor ASCM’s financial situation regularly. If there were any indications of financial instability, these committees and external auditors would have formally flagged it. This process ensures transparency and compliance with company bylaws.

Bottom line, ASCM is on solid financial footing:

  • These online claims are inaccurate, lack financial expertise, and misrepresent what a Form 990 can and cannot tell you.
  • ASCM remains financially stable, professionally audited, volunteer governed and committed to transparency with its members and stakeholders.
  • More importantly, we are energized by the strength of our community and our role as the trusted global association for supply chain professionals. Our financial discipline, governance structure and commitment to transparency allow us to focus on what matters most: advancing the profession, supporting our members and helping organizations navigate an increasingly complex global supply chain environment.

Our position and ongoing commitments:

  • Member-first and mission-driven: ASCM exists to elevate supply chain capabilities globally — end-to-end, across industries and regions, by delivering trusted standards, education and community. Our mission has not changed.
  • Rigid governance and oversight: ASCM follows a strict governance model with oversight led by volunteer committees including our board of directors, finance committee, audit committee, instructor advisory committee, and global partner committee. We also employ independent external experts for financial, investment, compensation and governance advisories. This aligns with best practices and rules and regulations governing 501(c)6 and 501(c)3 organizations.
  • Accountability and transparency: We follow documented protocols to verify information before we publish it, and we correct the record when inaccuracies surface.
  • Respectful dialogue: We value diverse perspectives and welcome constructive feedback. We will not engage in personal attacks online, amplify unfounded allegations, or allow misinformation to our valued partners and members.

We appreciate the trust you place in ASCM and remain focused on serving our members and advancing the profession.
